Is owning a Vacation rental worth it?

Anyone who has done this sort of thing. Any and all info would be appreciated. I have no clue where to even begin. Obviously I would maintain it myself. And I could pay google to advertise my site?
More specifically too…. What kind of profit could a setup like that produce? based on what kind of conditions…..
